It’s time to look at the newly released Witcher 3: Wild Hunt system requirements!

Minimum System Requirements

  • Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz
  • AMD Phenom II X4 940
  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 (2GB – 192 bit)
  • ATI Radeon HD 7870 (2GB – 256 bit)
  • RAM 6GB
  • OS 64-bit Windows 7 or 64-bit Windows 8 (8.1)
  • DirectX 11
  • HDD Space 40 GB

Recommended System Requirements

  • Intel Core i7 3770 3,4 GHz
  • AMD AMD FX-8350 4 GHz
  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 (depends on manufacturer: 2-4 GB – 256 bit)
  • ATI Radeon R9 290 (4GB – 512 bit)
  • RAM 8GB
  • OS 64-bit Windows 7 or 64-bit Windows 8 (8.1)
  • DirectX 11
  • HDD Space 40 GB

As you can see the 64 operating system is nowadays became a norm, there is no way to run modern video games with 3.5 GBs of system memory. It’s still interesting to see Windows 8 on the list, because AMD ATI has dropped its driver and control panel support for Windows 8 (instead they support Windows 8.1), they are encouraging everybody to update to Windows 8.1.

As we can see the minimum is 2 GBs of video memory is also by default from the end of the previous year.

Under the recommended system requirements we can find the R9 290, which is rather interesting. The video card is not really next generation or even new generation, it is just an improved version of the HD 6000 and HD 7000 line of ATI. If you look up the ATI R9 290 on the official website of AMD (amd.com), then you will notice that there are only 2 better performing cards out there on the market from ATI, the R9 290X which has about a 15-20% performance boost and the R9 295X2 which comes with a factory watercooler and at a thousand dollars in terms of the price.

On the other end Nvidia got the new Titan, which performs just slightly better, than the R9 290X.

Can we say that we are nearly at the limit in terms of what a single card of these can put out in native 4K on high settings or 1080p on ultra? This raises one big and important question, which can change the future of PC gaming positively or even very negatively: When will the new generation of GPUs come out? (And when GDDR 6 will be implemented?)

Let me know in the comments below.
